My hubby and I rarely go out for romantic date nights in the City of Angels. (Wasn’t that video of Los Angeles by Chris Pritchard so beautiful, especially at night?) We usually meet up with our friends for fun double dates or stay in for movie nights complimented by my running commentary that my hubby just adores. Not. (Yup, that’s us in that clip of The Weird Things Couples Do On Movie Night.) That’s why I’m so excited about our Valentine’s Date Night next Saturday! I have my whole outfit planned out in my Illustrienne Dress Up World! Drum roll please…. Here are the illustworthy items:
1. There’s no better way to say I love you than wearing hearts on your sleeves and dress. And this beautifully embellished lace Dolce and Gabbana Dress is fun, feminine and whimsical. I especially like that my arms are covered up (I’m weird about my arms right now) but I’m able to show off my legs.
2. I saw these earrings on net-a-porter and immediately fell in love with the fantastical element of Lydia Courteille’s creation. But when I found them listed on Vogue Paris online as “Virgo white gold, diamond, sapphire and moonstone earrings,” I knew it was written in the stars for me to illustrate them. Being a Virgo with a former astronomy obsession, I love spotting little Virgo images in unexpected places.
4. Definitely want to stay comfy and don’t want to hobble by my hubby’s side in fancy heels I can’t walk in! I opted for these illustworthy, perfectly bead embellished Balenciaga Cut-Out Flats. My hubby loves me in flats and I know why. I’m more confident in flats. I feel secure in knowing that I’m not going to topple over, and I can walk faster in flats with perfect posture. And I’m in such a better mood because my feet are not in excruciating pain (unless I wear my Clergerie platforms).
5. Now to complete my look with the prettiest shade of pink is Chanel Rouge Allure #93, Exaltée. Such a feminine, fresh color! And I just love their packaging and always enjoy illustrating their goodies.
My hair won’t look that voluminous on date night but this is my illustrienne world and a girl can imagine.
We wanted to watch the Golden Globes live, so we let Max watch the awards show with us. We explained to him women and men will dress fancy. As soon as Tina Fey and Amy Poehler walked onto the stage, Max turned to us and asked, “Is that a fancy?” I knew I had to illustrate the “Fancies.” They looked beautiful in all their ensembles. However, what I lust after are not so much their outfits, but their biting wit, humor, timing and the confidence that they exude on stage. They are not only Bossypants but Fancy Pants as well.
I took Dashiell to the park the other day and there were so many crows hanging out by the picnic tables that I purposely avoided going to that area. However, Dashiell was so excited to play with them that he ran over screaming at the top of his lungs. I was screaming as well. But not because I was excited but because I was frightened. I imagined the crows attacking us just like they did in Hitchcock’s The Birds. So when I spotted this Givenchy S/S 15 Look 47 on style.com, I was reminded of that dark day at the park. Crows are terrifyingly smart according to this article. Instead of being fearful of the crows, I’d rather have them on my side and fly around me all the time. Keep your friends close but keep your enemies closer. That way, I’d have constant voluminous, windswept hair and Dashiell will never be bored. As appealing as that sounds, I doubt it would ever happen. But anything is possible in my illustrienne world!
My little boys love Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and all the itsy-bitsy toy weapons that accompany them. The ninja stars are the smallest and once they go missing, it becomes quite the search and rescue operation. Once they’re recovered, a sense of relief overtakes me as I know we’ve avoided yet another potential meltdown. At night, one of the ways I unwind from their daily tantrums is to drool over Valentino runway looks on Style.com. I was inspired by this ethereal and Botticelli-esque, starfish Valentino dress from their Spring 15 runway presentation. And I illustrated myself with extra long hair that’s getting a much needed trim by spinning ninja stars. I finished the look with this celestial Valentino Virgo Necklace. Once the day is done, I’m at ease surrounded by the twinkling LA stars, sparkling starfish and twirling ninja stars.
I’m in love with this Louis Vuitton SS 15 Look 47 LBD dress because of the long sleeves. The sleeves would cover my arms and make them look long, slim and toned. Never underestimate the power of beautifully textured long sleeves. I would blast The Imperial March theme as I use my dark force to clean up the scattered toys. Then I would march over to my closet and use the force to reorganize and purge all the clothes that I haven’t worn in over a year. While marching, I’d use the force to blow out my hair so it would look fabulously voluminous. Then I’d continue marching all the way to Barney’s NY, because they’re having a sale and I’d need some retail therapy to recover from all that “forcing.”
